Alcantarilha is a village in the municipality of Silves in the district of Faro Algarve The village of Alcantarilha is situated on the EN125 road between Albufeira and Lagoa, north of the EN125. The houses almost untouched are clustered around the parish church Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Alongside the main road is the Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos), constructed entirely of approximately 1500 skulls and thigh bones, arranged in rows, side by side. Bone Chapel The Bones Chapel, in neighboring Alcantarilha,  constitutes a different attraction with a strange beauty. Attached to Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Bones Chapel dates back to the 16th century. Its interior is covered by more than 1500 human bones, which are thought to have belonged to the Jesuits who perished in the region. On the western exit of the picturesque village, a typical manor house has been transformed into a rural hotel with a private museum, the Capela das Artes. Along the other side of the road, there is a new development with recently built townhouses, villas, and apartments which extends towards Armação de Pêra. The water park Aqualand is situated outside the village on the EN125 in the direction of Lagoa. Its huge water slide (The Big One) can already be seen from miles away. The nearby Amendoeira Golf Resort consists of two great 18 hole golf courses, Oceânico Nick Faldo and Oceânico O’Connor. In 1999 Alcantarilha received the status of a village.
